Security Mesh Price in Malaysia: What Affects the Cost

Ask three companies for a security mesh quote and you may get three very different prices. That does not always mean one of them is overcharging. Security mesh is a made-to-measure product, and small differences in material, frame and lock design change both the price and how well the door or window protects your home. This guide explains what affects the cost so you can compare quotes properly.

Why security mesh prices vary so much

The price depends on what goes into each door or window, not just its size. Two quotes for the same opening can differ by a wide margin because the products behind them are not the same. The factors below are the ones that matter most.

1. The grade of stainless steel

304 stainless steel is the usual choice for homes in the Klang Valley, and 316 is the better choice for homes very close to the sea or a port. 316 costs more. Be careful with very low quotes, because lower-grade stainless steel is sometimes sold as 304 and it tends to rust sooner. Ask which grade is used and ask to see proof.

2. The thickness of the mesh

Security mesh uses stainless steel mesh about 0.8 to 1.2 mm thick, while ordinary mosquito mesh is only about 0.1 to 0.2 mm. Thicker mesh costs more, and it is a big part of what separates security mesh from a mosquito net.

3. The frame

The frame holds everything together. A strong aluminium frame made from new T6 aluminium costs more than a frame made from recycled or lower-grade material, and it lasts longer. Ask what the frame is made of and how thick it is.

4. The lock system

A single lock is cheap. A multi-point lock that holds the door at several points from top to bottom costs more, and so does a better lock design. Some systems have up to seven or eight lock points. Ask how many points each door has, and whether the lock uses a standard Euro cylinder, which is easy to replace if a key is lost.

5. Size, number of openings and custom shapes

More openings and larger openings cost more. Older homes with non-standard or uneven windows need careful measuring, and each frame is made to fit its own opening. That is more work than a standard size, but it avoids large gaps.

6. What the quote includes

Some quotes include supply, transport and installation. Others price the product only. Ask what is included before you compare totals.

Five questions to ask before you accept a quote

• Which grade of stainless steel is the mesh, and can you show proof?

• How thick is the mesh?

• What is the frame made of?

• How many lock points does each door have, and what lock cylinder is used?

• What does the warranty cover, and for how long?
